If you’re in the West Loop this weekend, you may be wondering about all the commotion and the kids in the skinny jeans. It’s the Pitchfork Music Festival, the lesser-known of Chicago’s two major summer concerts (after Lollapalooza) at Union Park on Lake and Ashland. Between that and filming for Transformers 3 downtown this weekend, CTA trains and buses may be a mess. Plan accordingly, and stay out of the heat!

The Historic Chicago Bungalow Association’s annual Green Home Expo returns to the Merchandise Mart this Saturday, October 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will feature 150 vendors and 15 seminars about green building and restoration technology, including how to finance a green restoration and navigating Chicago’s building permit process.
The 2007 Historic Chicago Bungalow and Green Home Expo is coming to the Merchandise Mart on October 27. That somewhat cumbersome name refers to an expo where homeowners can visit 150 vendors and attend 15 seminars focued on historic renovation and green technology. The show isn’t just limited to historic bungalow owners though, there will be numberous exhibitors on hand to discuss window replacement, wiring and plumbing upgrades, and environmentally-friendly home improvements. The Chitownproperty team is sponsoring a virtual food drive to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository. You can visit the website to purchase a number of food items to be donated, or contribute cash donations. It’s a simple as shopping online, no more need to haul cans of food around to do your part. The money raised will buy much-needed food for the hungry men, women and children in Chicagoland.
Every week, the Food Depository provides emergency and supplemental food to nearly 90,000 people in Cook County—33% of which are children—through a network of 600 pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and childcare centers. As staggering as this number is, the demand for food continues to rise. The generosity of just a few of our friends, family, and clients can make a big difference in the lives of Chicago’s hungry families and individuals. Even a small donation goes a long way in helping the Food Depository get nutritious food to those in need since the Food Depository can purchase food at prices three times lower than what we pay at the grocery store. All the items on our food drive have been identified by the Food Depository as ones that are in high demand. Please join us in the fight against hunger in our community.
Lofts in landmark buildings in the South Loop, Priner’s Row, the Historic Michigan Boulevard District, and the University Center will be on display Sunday as part of the South Loop Neighbors Loft Walk. The self-guided tours are open from noon to 5 PM. Tickets are $20, $15 in advance and $10 for students and seniors. For more information, go to southloopneighbors.org.
